ERI Reclamation

We specialise in high quality land reclamation associated with restoration of former colliery tips. There is still substantial dereliction and liability from coal tips in South Wales. We are currently the only company in the UK specialising in this type of work.

The standard we apply to tip reclamation schemes is to return the land as near enough to its original habitat prior to dereliction. On the hills of the South Wales valleys, this generally means returning the land to upland pasture or moorland. ERI Reclamation has unique expertise in applying the latest methods to acheive this. Our last completed scheme, Six Bells, was successfully restored to natural habitat with major environmental benefits, and has been widely acclaimed as the best tip reclamation in Wales.

Core to our approach is to reprofile the tips into a landform that is compatible with the surrounding environment, and that allows for low velocity runoff, thus eliminating future drainage issues. During the construction and operation phase we fully bund the site and utilise water treatment lagoons to manage run-off. We reestablish native grassland species by carefully managing top-soil and sub-soil, and introducing soil making materials where necessary.

SITE INVESTIGATION AND PROJECT ENGINEERING

Prior to commencement of a new project an intensive period of site investigation, ecology surveys, drainage and water assessment and community consultation is undertaken.

REPROFILING & LANDSCAPING

Once the project is commenced the derelict land is remodelled into a new profile that blends in seamlessly with the surrounding environment. We use landscaping to provide natural features such as ponds, which enhance biodiversity.

GRASSLAND RE-ESTABLISHED

Top soil, sub-soil and soil making materials are carefully managed so that grass once again grows on the restored site and creates a grazing habitat where native grass species are re-established.
